'Paper Planes' is a song from rapper M.I.A.'s 2007 album Kala. It was originally hoped to be released as a single in the United States, but the song was censored for radio due to its use of gunshots and a children's choir singing "All I wanna do... (gun shots) ...and take you money". M.I.A. performed the song on Late Night with David Letterman on September 21, 2007 and appeared to be visibly surprised to hear the song's gunshots replaced with ambiguous-sounding "popping" sounds.

In a recent podcast by CBC's Q hosted by Gian Ghomeshi, M.I.A. explains her intention with the song. She outlined the songs meaning and the push to censor it.
