I have just gotten off the phone with Usuki sensei. With all due respect, the information that you have written on the article is inaccurate and second-hand in nature.

Usuki Yoshihiko started correspondence with Shitama Manzo Shihan in the mid-1970's via letters and telephone correspondence. (The letters in reply from Shitama Shihan and family are still in Usuki sensei's possession.) Usuki san was a member of the Kosonkai dojo under Kitajima sensei from 1967 to the early 1990's, just prior to Kitajima san's death.

Mr. Fujii, the practitioner in Oregon, realized what he was being taught in the U.S as a gardener, not a college student was completely different to what was being studied at the Sekiryukan dojo and subsequently, he contacted Usuki san in the early 1990's and both parties trained at the Sekiryukan together.

Ito Manabu san joined the Kosonkai dojo sometime after Usuki sensei left the Kosonkai. Ito took over demonstration duties for the dojo for the Nihon Kobudo Shinkokai embu circuit. In the monthly Japanese budo magazine, "Hiden", Ito san describes his line as "Edo-den Sosuishi-ryu" and not Matsui-ha. It is written in black and white.

Usuki sensei recieved a lot of flak for even contacting the Sekiryukan in the 1970's from the other Kosonkai members when he was researching the history of the ryuha (Which is by the way, the base of 90% of the of the content of the Sekiryukan book, "Sekiryukan Chosen"). Usuki san left the Kosonkai dojo in the mid-1990's to continue studying Sekiryukan Sosuishi-ryu. In 1997, Usuki went back to the Kosonkai dojo, and was welcomed with taunts and jeers. It is ironic now that Ito san is commuting to train in Sekiryukan Sosuishi-ryu. Usuki sensei is Go-Mokuroku, so in reality, he is Mr.Ito's Sosuishi-ryu sempai in two lines.

To top this off, the Kosonkai dojo used historical information contained in the Sekiryukan Chosen book, which is in essence a great chunk of Usuki sensei's research, and put it in the aforementioned Hiden magazine as their own research.

We should not create unnecessary problems where they do need to exist. We have attempted to mutually respectful relationship between all three lines.
