"Jerks (Undergrads)"

Jerks is the seventh episode of the short-lived animated television series Undergrads.

Summary

While sending Nitz an emulator, Gimpy crashes his computer system and causes damage at his dorm. Upon inspection of his room, Rita the R.A. threatens to relocate Gimpy to a minimal technology dorm and cuts off his electricity for the night. Gimpy feels that Rita has gone too far and tells Mumph to gather the troops.

Nitz runs into Kimmy at the library. Kimmy informs him that she is going to study abroad in London for the rest of the semester and has lots to do to prepare for her trip. When mentioning she needs a travel clock, Nitz lies and says he has a travel clock with many special features that Kimmy can borrow. Kimmy tells Nitz to meet her tomorrow to give her the clock. Nitz is excited that he has a date with Kimmy and now has to go find a travel clock just like the one he described.

Back at Teckerson, Gimpy meets with his minions to discuss the Rita situation. He is interrupted by Nitz calling for help to find his travel clock. Gimpy tells him to search the web and asks for an idea to get rid of Rita. Nitz suggests sending Cal over to keep Rita occupied for the weekend. When Cal arrives at Gimpy's room, Gimpy intentionally overloads his computer, causing another system-wide crash. When Rita arrives to investigate, Gimpy introduces her to Cal. Impressed by Cal's sympathy for her due to Cal's own interest in becoming an R.A., Rita takes Cal to her room and hangs up a "do not disturb" sign. Gimpy and his minions celebrate their newfound freedom from Rita.

Meanwhile, Rocko has been thrown out of his frat house for the weekend, so he decides to stay with Nitz. As Nitz is searching for a travel clock, Rocko comes over and takes over Nitz's computer, room, and time. Nitz explains that he is meeting with Kimmy the next day and would like to go to bed early. Being a Friday night, Rocko wants to go to the bars and decides to drag Nitz along, despite Nitz's objections. After being kicked out of seven bars, Nitz finally talks Rocko into calling it a night. Back at Nitz's, a drunk Rocko admits that he does not have friends at his school and he misses hanging out with Nitz and the guys, who are like brothers to him. Nitz thanks Rocko and decides he will worry about the clock the next morning.

The next day Nitz oversleeps and wakes up an hour before he is supposed to meet with Kimmy. Panicked that he does not have a clock to give to Kimmy, Nitz contacts Gimpy for help. Gimpy had ordered Nitz a clock just like the one he promised Kimmy and one of his minions delivers it seconds later. Happy that he is going to keep his promise to Kimmy, Nitz gets ready for his date with Kimmy. While Nitz is in the shower, the clock's alarm goes off, which wakes up Rocko who smashes the clock to pieces in favor of going back to sleep. Nitz steps out of the bathroom and sees what Rocko did to his clock. Angry that he had lost his excuse to meet with Kimmy, Nitz kicks Rocko out of his room.

Nitz meets with Kimmy as planned and tells her that he does not have a clock to give because of Rocko. Nitz continues on with a rant against Rocko, not hearing Kimmy say she is not going to London after all, nor hearing her say Rocko is approach behind him. Nitz tells Kimmy that "Rocko is a rotten friend" and then turns around to see Rocko standing there, holding the broken clock which he tried to tape back together. Nitz realizes he has been a jerk and invites Rocko back to his room.

At Tekerson, Gimpy is growing tired of the excessive freedom the rest of his floor is exhibiting while Rita is occupied. Gimpy realizes there have to be rules to subvert rules and begs Cal to leave. When Rita refuses to let Cal leave, Gimpy's minions turn against him and hold Gimpy prisoner in his own room. Gimpy contacts Nitz & Rocko to help him remove Cal from Rita's room. Nitz and Rocko go to Tekerson, where Rocko enters Rita's room and makes himself at home. While Rita kicks Rocko out, Cal stands up for "his best buddy" Rocko, so Rita throws Cal out as well. With Cal removed from her room, Rita returns her attention to her students and order is restored.

Later on Nitz runs into Kimmy at the library where Kimmy once again explains that she is not going to London. She describes her life as a train wreck and Nitz tries to comfort her. Rocko tries to return to the frat house, but his brothers still will not let him in until the weekend is over. Rocko yells at them from outside, then attempts to hit on two women leaving the house. Rocko is maced by the women and is left on the ground outside of the house.

Trivia

  • The emulator that Gimpy sent to Nitz at the beginning of the episode was 600,000 kilobytes, or about half of a gigabyte.
  • The four friends are seen at the end of the episode discussing the morals of their stories in the parkling lot of Tekkerson Tech, despite Gimpy's aversion to the outdoors both at day (Screw Week) and night (Traditions).
