Ten Nights of Dreams
Appearance
Ten Nights of Dream (夢十夜, Yume jūya) is a series of short stories by Natsume Sōseki, printed in 1908. Four of the dreams begin with the same phrase, "I had a dream like this" (こんな夢を見た Konna yume o mita). A Japanese film based on the stories will be released in 2007, with each dream directed by a different director. Although the stories are unrelated in content, Akira Kurosawa's film Dreams used a similar format as well as the same opening phrase in each segment.
Other possibly more natural translations of the title are "Ten Nights of Dreaming" or simply "Ten Dreams" (the English 'Ten Nights of...' might be thought to imply that the nights were subsequent, but the Japanese does not).
