Kersal is an area of the city of Salford in the North West of England. And houses the second oldest building in Salford, namely Kersal Cell. Built in 1563 as a cell for the Cluniac order of Monks.

Religion

Churches in Kersal include the Church of England Saint Paul's Church, and a Roman Catholic Church called Our Lady Of Dolours. There is also a synagogue called the Congregation of Spanish & Portuguese Jews. Kersal along with Higher Broughton (also in Salford) and Prestwich (in Bury)forms the largest Orthodox Jewish community in Britain outside London, the nineteenth century Jewish community of Cheetham Hill in Manchester having moved en masse northwards into more suburban areas.

Industry

A soap factory was established in Kersal Vale in 1920 by Alexander Tom Cussons. The factory produces the famous brands of Carex, Cussons Imperial Leather and Morning Fresh.
