Wii System Software, sometimes referred to incorrectly as firmware, is updateable software and operating system for Wii. While the System Software updates may sometimes provide updates to the system's firmware, it is unlikely that this occurs with many, or any updates. The updates can be downloaded from the Nintendo WiFi Connection directly to Wii and subsequently installed. The latest version of the software was released on August 27, 2007.
The update was planned to tidy up any other problems which weren't corrected in the previous update. The update will prevent lockup problems, which can happen when pressing the Reset button on the console or through the Home Menu when using the Internet Channel. The update also corrects some Internet connection stability issues when using the LAN Adapter from Nintendo.
The use of FreeLoader, a boot manager made by Datel that allows games from different regions to be played, has been disabled.
The Wii Shop Channel load time was reduced. Wii light glows when disc is inserted or taken out of loading bay.
A warning screen was added, stating that any "unauthorized hardware modifications" may cease working, which must be agreed to before the update can be downloaded.
Changed the Wii Menu design, provided support for the online channels and also provided the ability to move the channels around. This is done by pressing and holding the A+B Buttons over top of the channel you want to move.
