Pirituba
Pirituba is a bairro (neighbourhood) in the city of "São Paulo", "Brazil". It is located in the west side of the city, and is inhabited by low and lower-middle class Brazilians.
Pirituba's population runs around 500,000 people, and the average monthly income per capita is US$600.
A person that lives in Pirituba is often called piritubano.
Although surrounded by natural beauties such as the Pico do Jaraguá and the Tietê river, due to the violence and low quality of life, most piritubanos wish they lived in "Lapa", a neighborhood on the other side of the river.
Some areas of Pirituba are highly dangerous, where drug lords and maloqueiros (street thugs) take the law into their own hands.
Many piritubanos express their love of Pirituba with the frase "Pirituba é o terrô" (which could be translated as "I love Pirituba").
Some of the main attractions in Pirituba is the Pirituba Bus Terminal, the Raimundo Pereira de Magalhães Avenue, and the macumbas (voodoo offerings) that can be found in many of the street corners.
