Ban Khung Taphao (Thai: บ้านคุ้งตะเภา) is a village (muban) in the Khung Taphao subdistrict of Mueang Uttaradit of Uttaradit Province, Thailand.
Etymology
The first element ban (Thai: บ้าน) means village.[1]The second element Khung (Thai: คุ้ง) bend of watercourse. The third element Taphao (Thai: ตะเภา)sailing ship (peculiarly from the word originally[2] Samphao (Thai: สำเภา)).
Geography
Ban Khung Taphao lies in the northern portion of Tambon Khung Taphao on Nan River.
Government
The current village headman of Ban Khung Taphao is Phu Yai Ban Somchai Samphaothong (Thai:สมชาย สำเภาทอง). This position is an elected post (in 2006), which is then followed by appointment by the Ministry of the Interior.
Culture
Residents of Ban Khung Taphao are Theravada Buddhists. Ancestor worship is practiced, and homes often have shrines dedicated to elders of the family who have passed away. Offerings of food and drink are placed beside the shrines. Children of Ban Khung Taphao attend school in Ban Khung Taphao School (Residents someone send his child goes attend at the school in Uttaradit city). They travel to Ban Khung Taphao School by bicycle and on foot. Traditional ethnic clothing is no longer worn by villagers of Ban Khung Taphao, other than for certain religeous ceremonies. Residents of Ban Khung Taphao is religion tradition such as "preach the story of Gautama Buddha as Vessantara, present robes to monks at the end of Buddhist Lent, Songkran festival" (mainly these tradition will do in a temple).
