Derrick Rose (born October 4 1988) is a freshman basketball player for John Calipari and the Memphis Tigers. Rose is 6'4" and billed at around 200 pounds. He is considered the top point guard prospect of the 2007 high school class. During his college decision process, he also strongly considered the University of Illinois.
Personal
Rose attended Simeon Career Academy in Chicago, Illinois. His AAU team was the Mean Street Express.
Rose goes by the nickname “Pooh”, his grandmother called him that as a baby because he was fat and yellow like pooh bear. Tattooed on Rose’s left bicep, is a wizard holding a staff in one hand, a basketball in the other and framed by the words “The Great Poohdini.” He owns two state championship rings. He has also been compared to NBA stars, such as Dwyane Wade, and Jason Kidd. [1] If he decides to go to the 2008 NBA Draft, he is expected to be a top pick.
