Mismatching
Appearance
Mismatching is the term given to the alleged negative effect that affirmative action has when it places a student into a college that is allegedly too difficult for her. For example, according to the theory, in the absence of affirmative action, a student will be admitted to a college that matches her academic ability, and so she will have a good chance of graduating. However, according to the mismatching theory, affirmative action often places a student into a college that is too difficult for her, and this substantially increases her chance of droppping out. Thus, according to the theory, affirmative action hurts its intended beneficiaries, because it increases their dropout rate. [1], [2], [3], [4]
