Giti Pashaei

Giti Pashaei or Guitee Pashayi was born in Tehran, Iran, 13 June 1948. "Giti" means "World" in original Farsi (Pahlavi). She inherited passion for music from her grandfather, Jafar Mansoori, who was known as a poet and musician. Her early life spent attending the master-classes of such musicians as Faramarz Paywar, Mahdi Foroogh and Mahmoud Karimi. She continued her education at different subjects in New York, there where she got diplomas for architecturer and composer as well. Giti was one of the most popular Iranian singers of the late 1960s and 1970s. Became famous with song "Gol-e Maryam". Later on she composed many sound tracks for Iranian movies after the revolution. As a composer, most of the time she worked with her husband Masoud Kimiai, a movie director, whom she was married since 1969. Late 1980s she lived in Hamburg, Germany, while researching Western Church and Baroque musics. She died of cancer in Tehran, 7 May 1995. Her songs and pieces are still sounded abroad, particuarly in Greece, Syria and Azerbaijan.
