About

The Southern Festival of Speed is a classic and historic race series that started in the late 1980s with the revival of the 1950s Dunedin Street Circuit. The series comprises rounds at three established South Island circuits and the Dunedin Street Circuit (organised with assistance from various local car clubs).

Upcoming Event

Announcing the 2008 Southern Festival of Speed, New Zealand's premier Classic Series for classic and historic cars. Four venues - seven racing days.

Once again planning is well under way for the 2008 South Island Classic Race Series. From Saturday 2nd February through to Saturday 23rd February next year, the Southern Festival of Speed NZ will be organising races at Ruapuna, Teretonga, Dunedin, and Levels raceway near Timaru.

The Series will consist of three circuit meetings, a hill climb, and various supporting events and functions. The Series, in the course of the various competitive events, visits the four principal cities in the South Island, Christchurch, Timaru, Dunedin, and Invercargill. We strongly recommend that you make every endeavour to attend the whole Series, thereby enjoying the full measure of the scenery and hospitality this Series has to offer. This comment applies to all the venues, as the whole of the South Island is a tourist mecca, so take your time.

If you wish to do the whole Series, the following figures will give you a representative indication of the distances you will cover and the average time it will take, not taking into account any stops for scenery, etc, you may wish to make. The times and distances are as quoted by AA New Zealand. The accompanying map shows the location of each event. Christchurch to Dunedin 395km/6.25hrs, Christchurch to Timaru is 163km/1.55hrs, Invercargill to Dunedin 217km/3.10hrs, and finally Dunedin return to Christchurch via Omarama and Mt Cook 662km/8.80hrs. There is very good accommodation in all areas. Should you wish help with this, or any other matter make contact with any of the numbers given below. The following programme is given in order of the calendar events. Please note that these events frequently get oversubscribed and as a result entrants that are attending the full series will be given preference.
