San Seriffe is the name of a fictional island which was the subject of a famous hoax.

The first version of the hoax was perpetrated by the British newspaper The Guardian on 1 April 1977. A seven page supplement was published commemorating the 10th anniversery of the island, complete with themed adverts from major companies.

The island was reused in similar hoaxes in 1978, 1980 and 1999.
