The Great Firewall of China (Chinese: 防火长城; pinyin: fanghuo changcheng) is a blanket term thought to have been coined in an article in Wired magazine in 1997<ref>[1]<ref>[2] and used by international, including Chinese, media to refer to projects initiated by the People's Republic of China that attempt to block from viewers within Mainland China certain internet content.
