The 2008 Vancouver municipal election will be held on November 15, 2008. It will fill seats in Canvouver School Board, the Parks Board, as well as Vancouver City Council and the position of Mayor of Vancouver. It will be held at the same time as municipal elections throughout the province.

Potential mayoral candidates

Non-partisan Association

  • Sam Sullivan is the incumbent Mayor of Vancouver. He is widely expected to run for re-election.
  • Peter Ladner is a current member of Vancouver City Council. He has expressed desire for becoming mayor and may soon ask the NPA's governing board to reject a proposal that would rubber stamp nominations for all incumbents seeking re-election.[1]

Vision Vancouver

  • Gregor Robertson is the current NDP MLA for Vancouver-Fairview and a former businessman. He has yet to confirm whether he is running or not, but is the subject of speculation that he will be.[2]
  • Raymond Louie is a current city councilor. He has gone on the record saying that he is interested in the mayor's job.[3]
  • Allan DeGenova is a former member of the NPA who was expelled from the party in May 2006.[4] He was originally planning to run as an independent alongside Finance Minister Carole Taylor but after she announced that she was not running he postponed further decision.[5] In February 2008 he announced that he was going for the Vision Vancouver nomination.[3]
