Millard West High School is a secondary school located in Omaha, Nebraska.

The school first opened its doors on August 17, 1995. In 2002, the school was designated as a National Blue Ribbon school of excellence.[citation needed] The school uses block schedules, with 4 blocks each day and 4 semesters a year. Recently, Millard West underwent construction to add a new wing and an addition to the music wing. The project is mostly completed, but a few final touches are needed. Millard West offers many diverse clubs and athletics. These range from sports as common as football or baseball, to clubs such as French Club and Photography club. An additional club, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, is not technically sponsored by Millard West, but meetings are announced by the school.

Cheerleading

Millard West has a competitive cheerleading team. Their Varsity Competition team has won many national champion awards including 2007 First Place national champs.[citation needed] They are known for the very difficult tumbling and dances. They are also known for lots of community service with associations such as the American Heart Association and Relay for Life. Every Friday night you can find them with their football team and football/cheerleading fans at a high school football game.

Music

Millard West has one of the highest-ranked music department in Nebraska, and the surrounding region. [citation needed]

The school has three show choirs (West In The Groove, Uptown Girls, and Swing Cats).

This school is also home to the superiorly rated orchestras and chamber ensembles. [citation needed]

The school hosts three bands. The freshmen are in the concert band, and the upperclassman are divided in to two separate bands according to their performance in an audition. The top band is called "Wind Ensemble" while the lower is the "Symphonic Band." Both the freshmen and upper classmen have their own marching band. Millard West's Varsity Marching Band normally places third in the state.[citation needed] Competing nationwide, The Millard West Marching Band has received top honors at many competitions.[citation needed] Mary Jane invades class of 08's brain, now we cant complain.'''Bold text
