Matmice's homepage from 10 February 2007

MatMice is an invite only freeweb social networking website aimed at children and teenagers, founded by three sisters in 2000. Until February 2007, the website based itself on free webpages for children, with basic tools and HTML support, and over 1,609,265 members. All webpages created and its web creation tools are planning to be "taken down" in the near future to focus on its social network community.

Matmice has often had periods where it is not possible to get in to edit your homepage, usually this only lasts a day or two. The error is not exactly informative: "Internal Server Error ... Please contact the server administrator, webmasters@matmice.com and inform them of the time the error occurred..." But do e-mail them when you cannot edit your page.

MatMice has won numerous awards due to its free to use basis aimed primarily at children, and is recognised as a leader in development of user friendly technology easily accessible to children. MatMice also has plans to utilize other languages. [1] [2]

In 2003, the oldest of the MatMice creators, Emily Boyd was awarded the NSW Young Australian of the Year and honoured with the Centenary Medal. This award recognises her as making contributions to Australian society or government.
