"California Air Resources Board (CARB) rejected the staff’s proposal to shrink the number of Zero-emissions vehicle (ZEV)s required of automakers in 2012-2014 from 25,000 down to 2,500 vehicles, and instead set the target at 5,357 vehicles – an improvement from the low numbers staff proposed, yet only 70% of current regulations.[1]

"DontCrush.com's (formally changed to Plug In America) efforts have received public support from the American Lung Association, CalCars.org, California Assembly Members, Electric Auto Association, Environmental organizations, Global Exchange, Jumpstart Ford Coalition, Natural Resources Defense Council, Set America Free, Sierra Club, City of Santa Monica, South Coast Air Quality Management District and the Union of Concerned Scientists." Plug In America has also formed alliances which include: Ford; Toyota; and the most recent President Bush. It is claimed that the U.S. should use electric cars instead of oiled because 70% of the oil is consumed for transportation.[2] Plug-in hybrids also would slightly lower air pollutants such as nitrogen oxide, sulfur dioxide and smog-forming ozone in most regions, the study found. But emissions of particulate matter could rise because of the increased burning of coal.[3]

It is said that Plug In America will help with industry, environmental and national security organizations, and concerning citizens to revive plug-in auto production and give Americans the freedom to choose vehicles that are powered by cleaner, cheaper, domestic sources of energy.[5]
