Andrew Cadima
Andrew William Cadima (born Oct. 8, 1984 in Raleigh, NC) is an American Composer.
Biography
Andrew Cadima is an award winning composer currently working out of the San Francisco bay area. He has written for a wide variety of ensembles ranging from solo trombone to large orchestra and has written for events ranging from rock concerts to symphony halls. Cadima began his studies in composition in Austin, TX with Joe Harchanko (University of Texas) and subsequently received bachelors and masters degrees in composition from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music under instructors Dan Becker and David Garner. He has additionally studied abroad and performed on the piano and guitar in cities all over the world including Vienna, Paris, and Valencia. Cadima’s music has been performed internationally by many soloists and ensembles including The Curtis Institute of Music Chamber Orchestra, the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Orchestra, the SFCM New Music Ensemble, conductor Nicole Paiement[1], the SFCM Chorus, the Huntington Guitar Ensemble, the Allendale String Quartet, and award winning trombonist Achilles liarmakopoulos among many others. Cadima has won many awards and accolades in recognition of his achievements in composition. Most recently his setting of Psalm 51, Miserere, was a prize winner in the 6th biannual San Francisco Conservatory of Music Choral Composition Competition.
Recent Premieres
- Andrew Cadima's piece Dream for trombone solo, string orchestra, and harp, commissioned by trombone virtuoso Achilles liarmakopoulos, was given its east coast premiere this past May by the Curtis Institute of Music[2] and was previously premiered on the west coast in 2007 by the AC/SF Chamber Orchestra under Jacques Dejardins.
- Miserere was given its premiere by the SFCM Chorus at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Choral Composition Competition this past May where it was prize winner.
