Rotuma

Hi there! Thank you for you kind note on my user page. I've seen you about before but didn't realize you were Rotuman. I've just spent the last hour perusing some of your articles, adding categories and cross-links to other articles, etc. I found them extremely interesting, and look forward to seeing many more contributions from you. When I joined Wikipedia in early 2004, there were a total of eight (8) articles that mentioned Fiji, and only one that mentioned Rotuma. Can

I have just created two new articles one being Fijian Religion and the other being Fijian Tradition & Ceremony, your input and help would be very much appreciated when you have the time.

Good News!

The Rotuman Wikipedia is only one step away from creation. Before the wiki can be created, we need to translate the main interface messages. This page will serve as a place for centralized discussion and coordination, while the actual translation will be on the BetaWiki (see BetaWiki instructions and a full list of Rotuman interface messages). If you have any problems, comments, suggestions, or questions, feel free to post below and we will be sure they are addressed.

While it would be even better to translate the entire interface, some of it isn't very important and can be translated later. If you see any messages you think don't need to be translated, feel free to mention them here.

The following messages don't need translation before final approval (although you are free to translate them anyway). The * symbol followed by a number means that several messages beginning with that are unneeded. For example, unlock* (6) means that six messages with names starting with "unlock" (unlockdb, unlockdbtext, unlockconfirm, unlockbtn, unlockdbsuccesssub, and unlockdbsuccesstext) are unneeded.

  • common* (2)
  • edittools
  • exif-* (273)
  • export* (7)
  • feed* (2)
  • import* (27)
  • lock* (8)
  • mainpagedocfooter
  • mainpagetext
  • metadata* (6)
  • monobook* (2)
  • pagetitle
  • unlock* (6)

I can't emphasize this enough: if you have any problems, comments, suggestions, or questions, feel free to post below and we will be sure they are addressed. There's no reason for anyone to be confused or uncertain if we can help it. :) --Jose77 23:30, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I will shorten the above message and write it in a more simplified way. The Rotuman test-project will qualify to become a real wikipedia when the interface messages on BetaWiki have been translated into the Rotuman language. Here are the steps to do so:
  • Step 1: Log-in to BetaWiki.
  • Step 2: Join the Translators group to enable you to translate the interface messages. (This could be achieved by requesting User:Nike to grant you membership).
  • Step 3: Begin translating all of the messages into Rotuman (except for the ones mentioned above which are not compulsory).
  • Step 4: Once the translation is completed, the Wikimedia Board of Trustees will approve the Rotuman project and create the new Wikipedia.

Can you please help render "Fiji Scouts Association" as well as "Be Prepared", the Scout Motto, into Fijian? Thanks! Chris 03:40, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I'm glad you messaged me. I wasn't aware that Blevins has been "superceded" by Schmidt. I'll look the pdf you sent me to and I'll see about incorporating information from the link you provided. Keep in mind, though, that I'm mostly a phonology person so I don't have much planning on morphology, syntax, or semantics. I noticed that the site that hosts the pdf you sent me has this page (also by Schmidt) and it seems less technical, so even in your non-technicalness you can certainly incorporate some information from there, making the page less phonology-centric. Also, we should discuss the presentation of the alphabet. I don't have a copy of Churchward and I'm not exactly clear on how the orthography is used and that might be helpful to the readers. Matt, I have reverted your edit. I have also have a record of your IP address as 124.176.43.199 making similar edits not logged in under your alias which puts you in Australia [1]. Per the prior ruling of the Arbitration Committee, I will report any and all alledged activity appearing to be sockpuppets of User:Johnski. Davidpdx (talk) 03:00, 15 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You have been blocked from editing for a period of 24 hours in accordance with Wikipedia's blocking policy for violating the three-revert rule. Please be more careful to discuss controversial changes or seek dispute resolution rather than engaging in an edit war. If you believe this block is unjustified, you may contest the block by adding the text {{unblock|your reason here}} below. PeterSymonds (talk) 08:38, 15 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Peter. I'm not going to appeal your decision because my conduct has indeed been in contravention of Wikipedia rules about edit war. I apologise for any inconvenience to you. However let it be noted, should my interactions with Davidpdx escalate (please note this is not something I desire), that if you look at his talk page I sought to discuss it very congenially and despite this he continued to undo my edits and he failed to justify this to me. --Mattbray 11:47, 15 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Mattbray. I agree, and I've blocked both for the same period and for the same reason. When the block expires, I suggest you begin dispute resolution; perhaps open a request for comment about your edits, and see if outside opinions can decide whether either edits should remain. I hope that will be sufficient, and I'll be happy to mediate informally over any future discussions. Let me know if and when they occur if you require my neutral involvement.
