The name Easterhouse?

I remember doing a project about Easterhouse in School. One of the points that was raised was that historians didn't really knew why it was called Easterhouse. I notice that a previous version saying it was to do with the Easter time of year, has been replaced by one about farms. Neither version cites a source. I'm not going to dispute either claim based on a half-remembered school project, so I've just added the unreferenced template 172.143.132.53 00:27, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The name derives from the house and farm of that name, sometimes it was referred to in legal documents (sasines) as 'Easthouses' but this would likely have been clerical error. The logic of the name is straight forward - being an opposite of 'Westerhouse' farm. Nearby examples of similarity can be found in Easter Daldowie and Wester Daldowie.
