Pickens Plan

The Pickens Plan is the idea of oilman T. Boone Pickens to reduce America's dependence on foreign oil by creating a huge wind farm in the Texas Panhandle, near Amarillo, and simultaneously increasing use of natural gas for automobiles. America is considered by many to be the "Saudi Arabia of Wind." America also has vast natural gas supplies. The Pickens plan aims to use wind to supply power for non-automobile use, allowing natural gas now being used for that purpose to be diverted to automobile use.

Pickens introduced the idea on July 7th, 2008, and is actively promoting it in the American Media.

Pickens has signed a contract to purchase more than 600 large wind turbines to build the largest wind generation facility in North America.

Texas already has more wind generation than any other state in America.
