SMS Von der Tann was the first battlecruiser built for the German Kaiserliche Marine. Built by Blohm & Voss Hamburg. SMS Von der Tann was named after Ludwig Freiherr von und zu der Tann-Rathsamhausen a Bavarian general who fought in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870. She was present at the battle of Jutland where she sank HMS Indefatigable, but was hit by four heavy shells. Casualties 11 dead and 35 wounded. She was scuttled at Scapa Flow on 21 June 1919. She was raised in 1930 at scrapped at Rosyth Source - Conway's All the World's Fighting Ships 1906-1921
