British fortified wine

British Fortified Wine is an inexpensive, high-proof alcoholic drink manufactured by several English companies. It is comparable to other forms of "wine" only by the loosest of associations (i.e. color, bottle shape, etc.) and is characterized by a nauseatingly sweet body followed by a bouquet of artifical fruit-flavoring aromas. Because the target demographic of British Fortified Wine is the indigent, malnourished alcoholic, one might be forgiven for assuming that it is "fortified" with calories, vitamins, minerals, or some other nutritive principle. In a compassionate society this would no doubt be the case. British Fortified Wine, however, is only "fortified" with alcohol.
