Kirk Sutherland

Kirk Sutherland is a fictional character in the British television soap opera Coronation Street.

Kirk first appeared in October 2000. He is Maria Connor's older brother, a less than bright man but he has a good heart. He is good friends with Tyrone Dobbs and Jason Grimshaw and an ex-boyfriend of Fiz Brown, he has also been friends with Les Battersby-Brown, whom he has lived with whom he lived and gets up to all sorts of tricks. Kirk is shown to be extremely loyal to Les, this was evident when Les was going to court for assaulting a police officer, Kirk tried very hard to find a witness and was eventually successful, though Les still lost his case.

Storylines

Kirk lost the kennels in May 2007, following a lawsuit over the neutering of the wrong dog (who was a pedigree specimen), and within a week proposed to his girlfriend, Fiz. She dumped him immediately, and told him that she no longer wanted to be with him. She left Kirk to be with her first lover, John Stape, Kirk was left feeling broken and humiliated.

On May 18, 2007. Kirk was in turmoil over Fiz leaving him, later that day, he and Jamie Baldwin rescued Claire Peacock, Kirk's next-door-neibour from her burning house. As a reward, Claire's husband, Ashley gave him a job at his butchers.

After Fiz's mother, Cilla, left the street for Las Vegas on 12 October 2007, Kirk was left to look after her son, Chesney. They were like two kids left on their own. When they went out the house was left in a mess and Kirk bought them loads of take-aways. In March 2008, Claire Peacock felt guilty Ashley let Kirk go from his job. She went round to his house and was shocked to find it left in a mess. She called Social Services, with the intention of getting them to provide Kirk with help but they took Chesney away to a foster home. When Fiz returned from a holiday she went on, she was furious but forgave Kirk. She managed to get Chesney home but she had to move in with them, making Kirk believe she still had feelings for him.

In April 2008, Kirk and his sister, Maria offered to pay for them to go and visit their parents in Cyprus for a several weeks, in the days leading up to his return, Fiz dreaed him coming home, while she was providing a home for Chesney. On his return, he broke the news that he had bagged himself a new girlfriend called Julie, whom he fallen in love with in cyprus, whom Fiz has taken a dislike to, Julie seems to show some empathy to other peoples problems. Julie now lives with them at their house.
