Bunnythorpe is a village in the Manawatu district in the North Island of New Zealand, approx 10 kms from the major city Palmerston North.

Most of the surrounding district is in Dairy Farms and there is a large electrical substation nearby.

Glaxo

The village is the birthplace of Glaxo, originally a baby food manufacturer processing local milk into an early baby food named 'Glaxo', which was sold in the 1930s under the slogan 'Glaxo builds bonny babies'. Still visible on the main street of Bunnythorpe is a derelict dairy factory (factory for drying and processing milk into milk powder) with the original 'Glaxo' logo clearly visible, but nothing to indicate that this was the start of a major multinational.

The 'Glaxo' company went on to become a major Pharmaceutical Manufacturer and after a series of mergers in 2005 is now merged into SmithKleinGlaxo.
