Nikolai Saltykov, a courtier, tutored Konstantin Pavlovich Romanov (1779-1830), the second eldest son of eventual Czar Pavel.

Sergey Saltykov, a courtier, was one of the lovers of Catherine II "the Great" (1729-1796) and--in light of the probable sterility of her husband, Peter III--was in actuality the probable father of her son, Pavel Petrovich Romanov, the czar who succeeded her on the Russian throne upon her death.
