This article concerns a specific Buddhist organization. See Vajrayana, which can also be referred to as Diamond Way Buddhism.

Diamond Way Buddhism is an organisation which claims to follow Buddhist teachings but has attracted criticism and accusations that it is a cult[1][2]. It was founded by, and is run by Ole Nydahl, a Danish teacher, who was the student of the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa.

Lineage

Diamond Way Buddhism claims to follow Karma Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism under the direction of Trinley Thaye Dorje, one of two claimants to the title of Karmapa (See Karmapa controversy), but is in fact largely a separate organisation.

Organization

The group claims 585 centers and groups in 52 countries (August 2008), mainly in Europe, Russia, South America, North America and Israel.

All work in connection with the centres and groups are unpaid a voluntarily and functions on the basis of friendship and idealism. Ole Nydahl calls the heirachy a 'meritocracy', which has attracted criticism from outsiders and former members for using a cult of personality.
