Dr. Shazia Khalid was a doctor in Pakistan, who was allegedly beaten, raped and left semiconscious by a Pakistani army officer and his men, while she was at work at the state run Pakistan Petroleum plant in the tribal province of Balochistan.

According to media reports, when she reported the rape, local authorities locked her up in a psychiatric hospital and her husband's grandfather, the family patriarch, called for a mob to kill her because she had "stained" the family honor. Dr. Khalid and her husband are currently in London, UK; and they're seeking asylum in Canada.

Pakistan's military president General Pervez Musharraf actively denied the allegations against one of his military officers and reportedly made counter allegations about the victom. This action of the president created suspicious and there were rumors that the rapist captain was a relative of a general, close to the president. According to the New York Times: “Pakistan's president, Pervez Musharraf, is supposed to be our valued ally in the war on terrorism. But terror takes many forms, not all of them hijacked airplanes or bombed ... For the vast majority of humans, terror comes in more mundane ways -- like the violent hands that woke Dr. Shazia Khalid...”
