George White Dick - Scottish footballer and Coach. (1921 - 1960)

George White Dick

George White Dick was a Scottish Guardsman, B.A.O.R. cruiserweight army boxing Champion, professional footballer and manager.

After leaving the army, while making up his mind whether to take a letter of recommendation to a London Club, he worked as a waiter in Blackpool. He asked Joe Smith Blackpool manager for a trial in August 1946 and within 10 minutes was signed on. He played his first game in 1946 scoring v Arsenal, and in season 1946/47 was 2nd highest scorer with 11 goals. The pinnacle of his playing career was playing in the 1948 F.A. Cup Final for Blackpool v Manchester United. He also wrote training manuals and was one of the first qualified F.A. coaches.
