Mega Ramp
A Mega Ramp is a structure used in skateboarding. It was designed on a large scale by skateboarder Danny Way. Although [[Andy Macdonald](skateboarder)] is credited for initially coming up with the basic concept, it was danny way's descision to tweak the initial design
Structure
The structure is generally made of wood, and consists of 2 sections. The first section consists of a ramp that drops from either 65 or 80 feet up, at a steep angle, before evening out, and then curves up to provide lift over the 60 or 70 foot gap. The skater then sails through the air, and lands on the second portion, which transitions into a 27 foot Quarter pipe to help the skater slow down. The entire structure is approximately 360 feet long.[1]
Use
The Mega-Ramp was added to the X Games in 2004 and is used for the Big Air Competition.[2]
Skateboarders
The Mega Ramp was first skated by Danny Way, who used a Mega Ramp to jump over the Great Wall of China in 2005. [3]
Skater Bob Burnquist has built a permanent Mega Ramp on his home property.[4]
Lyn-Z Adams Hawkins is the first female to skate the Mega Ramp.[5]
The youngest skater to attempt the mega ramp was Taylor Smith. He completed it unharmed at age 11.
At the 2007 X Games, Jake Brown successfully 720 Mute grabbed the 70 foot gap, but lost control of his board on the quarter pipe and fell 45 feet. After lying motionless for several minutes, he was able to walk away. However, upon medical examination, was found to have sustained liver and lung contusions and stress fractures in his vertebra as well as a small hand fracture.[1]
