Steven N. Samuelian

Steven N. Samuelian was elected to the 29th district of the California State Assembly in 2002. He succeeded Mike Briggs who stepped down to make an unsuccessful run for Congress.

Background

Samuelian is an alumnus of California Polytechnic State University, Pomona.

2002 Election

Samuelian defeated Larry Willey in the Republican primary and Richard Martinez, Jr. in the General Election.

2003 Scandal

He served just one term after being forced out of office due to controversy surrounding his relationship with prostitutes.[1]Five prominent local Republicans,including his former boss George Radanovich, congressman Devin Nunes, and Fresno Lincoln Club president Michael Der Manouel jr., issued a public statement,"Assemblyman Samuelian's recent indiscretion is reprehensible and establishes a pattern of behavior that is unbecoming an elected official," they said. "While unfortunate, we feel it incumbent upon us to call for Assemblyman Samuelian's resignation from the California state Assembly.A few days later,KRZR, a local radio station which was in close proximity to the Assemblyman's office, sent a pornographic blowup doll to Steve Samuelian as a prank. The prank backfired and the assemblyman's office called the CHP, however, no charges were brought against the radio station or the DJs. The radio station was general criticized being tasteless and an example of reality TV and Radio going to extreme.

Accomplishments in the State Assembly

Assemblyman Samuelian was commended for accomplishments by the full assembly. His work in bringing displaced firefighters into the master list and work in establishing a hmong history month were lauded in House Resolution 82. He was a strong supporter of hunting rights, and received the endorsement of the NRA for his 2002 and 2004(withdrew) campaigns. He also received the endorsement of the now defunct Central Valley Taxpayers, PAC.

Steve Samuelian currently owns the consulting firm California Consulting,LLC. and has registered as a lobbyist with the state of California
