Gżira is mainly a working-class town in the Mediterranean Island of Malta which lies between Msida & Sliema. It is named after Manoel Island which lies just adjacent to it - Gżira is the word for island in Maltese, so named due to its proximity to Manoel Island, named after Manuel de Vilhena, a Grandmaster of the Knights of Malta in medieval times. The village tends to have a negative image due to the popular belief that it is famous for prostitution. However, this is quite untrue. Most of the prostitutes are from neighbouring cities/villages, and it is still as safe as the rest of Malta & Gozo. On the plus side, it is conveniently centrally located in Malta, so no place is far away.
