Template:Future book Inkdeath (German title Tintentod) is the third book in the Inkheart trilogy. No plot details have been given by author Cornelia Funke, but it will resume only a few weeks after Inkspell left off; Farid and Meggie's mission of bringing Dustfinger, who died at the end of Inkspell, back to life. Cornelia Funke has confirmed that Dustfinger will come back in Inkdeath. The story will revolve around Meggie and Farid's quest. Funke has said in an interview that characters like Orpheus and Violante will play a larger role in the book. It is expected to be the last novel about Inkworld. In an interview, one of the questions asked was "Will Meggie and Farid stay together?" In answer, Cornelia replied "there will be another boy..."

The second chapter of Inkdeath can be found in new copies of Inkspell. The segment follows Mo and the robbers as they fight off soldiers and help protect a poor village. A quote from the chapter says "How cold killing made you, so cold, although your skin was burning, and your blood flowed as if you were feverish... Resa and Meggie are staying in a deserted farmhouse while Mo is with the robbers." At the very end of the chapter it states that Resa is pregnant.

Cornelia Funke said on her website, "Inkdeath" will start only a few weeks after the second part of the trilogy has ended - near Ombra - and you will meet again almost all characters from "Inkspell", joined by two new glass men and some more robbers. Some characters are going to play a more decisive role, such as Violante, Resa, and primarily Orpheus. This time, starting from Ombra, the story will move north, not south, and ... well, I should not give away much more so far.

Cornelia Funke stated in January 2007 that the title would definitely be Tintentod, with the English title being Inkdeath. This replaces the alternative working title of Tintensaat, or in English, Inkdawn. Tintentod was released in Germany on September 28, 2007, and will be released in the US on October 7, 2008.
