187 is the sum of three consecutive primes (59 + 61 + 67) and nine consecutive primes (7 + 11 + 13 + 17 + 19 + 23 + 29 + 31 + 37).

187 is a self number.

In other fields

187 is the California Penal Code section that defines murder. It has come into general use among gangs in the United States as a synonym for murder, and this usage has passed into popular culture via gangsta rap, and inspired the title of the film One Eight Seven, starring Samuel L. Jackson. For further information, see 187 (murder). The reference was also used in Sublime's song April 29, 1992 (Miami), and Snoop Dogg's song "Deep Cover" is popularly known as "187."

In 1994, California Proposition 187 was intended to deny public benefits to illegal immigrants.
