Narvin Kimball
Appearance
Narvin Kimball, born in New Orleans, Louisiana March 2, 1909.
Left-handed virtuoso banjo player, son of Henry Kimball (string bass) and husband of the pianist Jeannette Kimball (née Salvant).
Started with Papa Celestin Original Tuxedo Orchestra from late '20s through the Great Depression.
In the '30s switched to string bass in swing bands but music was not able to let him earn enough money thus he started a brand new career as a mailman.
Thanks to the New Orleans Jazz Revival he was back playing his banjo and since mid '50s worked as a bandleader in New Orleans and toured both U.S.A. and Europe.
A virtuoso soloist and an accomplished rhythm man, he was still active and swinging in his nineties.
