New Message!

Hello, Mintrick. You have new messages at Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Bumvertising_(2nd_nomination.
You may remove this notice at any time by removing the {{newmessages}} template.

Please stop!

Please refrain from creating further "______ in popular culture" articles that are forks from other articles. Such popular-culture lists are strongly discouraged. The information in the list should be merged into the main article, and in many cases condensed down greatly. In their current form, the articles you have split off are likely to face deletion procedures. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 15:01, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, please refrain from just tagging all the articles like that. Thanks for talking to me, instead. Clearly people want those lists to exist, but I think they detract from Wikipedia's academic tone. I think that the strong differences in structure merit a separate article. I'm not about to defend the content, but I think that if you tried to delete it, the original contributors might have some things to say. Mintrick (talk) 15:03, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Further note that I will stop doing this until we've hashed this out. Mintrick (talk) 15:04, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
"Clearly people want these to exist"? What people? When such articles are brought up for AfD they seem to be deleted quite regularly. I even coined a name for it some time ago: "culturecruft." - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 15:08, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, then delete them. Whatever. I just don't want them in otherwise scholarly articles. When I say "clearly people want them to exist", I mean that somebody has to be creating and adding to these lists. I think we can implicitly assume that by creating or expanding them, these people want them to exist.
Also, can we stop reverting each others' edits until we're done here? The tags imply that each article should be considered on its own, when it's really all just part of a single central discussion we should have to determine the fate of all of them. Mintrick (talk) 15:10, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I stopped reverting after I figured out what you meant by "centralized discussion." Sorry. Like you, I don't think these lists have a place in scholarly articles. However, I extend that to believing they have no place in Wikipedia, period. In other words, your motive is good, but I don't think it goes far enough. At least you got it moved out where it can be discussed separately, without having to hash it out in each main article's talk space.
I'll give a bit more thought as to whether to take the whole lot to AfD or not. Thanks for your effort, though, and generally speaking we're of the same opinion of the issue. On second thought, your splits may have made it easier to rid WP of this culturecruft. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 15:21, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
So, it seems to be that the matter is settled. Do you have a problem with me splitting anymore articles? And removing the merge tag from Kusanagi? Mintrick (talk) 15:45, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
