Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai (神のみぞ知るセカイ, lit. The World That Only God Knows) is a shōnen manga by Tamiki Wakagi. The manga is currently running in Shōnen Sunday having begun in 2008's issue 19. Wakagi created a prototype version of the story which debuted in Shōnen Sunday 2007 issue 19 and was titled, "Koishiite!? Kami-sama!!". [1]
Plot
Katsuragi Keima is known on the net as "The Capturing God" while in real life he’s known as otamegane and he hates all real girls. However he is approached by Elsee, a devil from hell, to help her in catching runaway spirits that hide in people. Apparently the spirits only hide in the hearts of girls and the only way to get the souls out is by making the girl fall in love so the spirit gets forced out. And he’s not allowed to fail or he will lose his head.
Main Characters
- Katsuragi Keima
The main character who unknowingly signs a contract with Elsee,not realizing the consequences. He is known as 'The Capturing God' for his skills in getting girls in games, and was approached by Elsee not knowing that he hardly has come in contact with real girls. He is called otamegane in real life (A combination of Otaku and Megane/glasses ).
- Elsia de Lute Irma
Known as Elsee, she is a demon who was assigned to capture evil spirits that have escaped from Hell.
Girls
- Ayumi Takahara
- A girl in Keima's class, Ayumi's a member of the school's track team. However, recently, something seems to be a bit off as of late. Keima discovers her problem and makes her fall in love with him. Her memories have been erased of that time after Elsie captured the spirit, though her feelings for Keima remain, much to her own confusion. The two are often paired up for cleaning duty together. In a small omake at the end of chapter 14, it's been shown that she is more eager to be around him.
- Mio Aoyama
- A girl in Keima's school, Mio is your stereotypical spoilt rich girl. But she's hiding a big secret which Keima and Elsie must use to their advantage. She falls in love with Keima after going to a party with him. Like Ayumi, her memories were erased, but she always watches Keima, blushing as she does so.
- Kanon Nishihara
- A recently popular idol, Kanon is actually in Keima and Elsie's class and has only recently returned. She may be a popular idol but her insecurities are all too clear...in the form of a stun gun?! She and Keima eventually become friends, and through that she falls in love with him. She hasn't appeared of late, so it is unknown how she feels towards Keima, but from looking at the last two girls, it is likely that she still retains her feelings.
- Shiori Shiomiya
- A quiet girl who loves books but can not talk to others easily. Keima slowly gained her attention, by saying that books are useless. He finally got her to start speaking a bit after doodling in books twice (once in a library book, and the other in his own book). When Shiori found out that 3000 books were going to be disposed, she locked herself in the library. However, after Keima forces the spirit out of her, she finally regains the ability to talk.
- Kusunoki Kasuga
- A 3rd year student at Keima's High School. She's 18 years old and studies kasuga style kempo founded by her father. She hates weakness and, on the outside, despises cute things but secretly loves them. She is the fifth girl with a spirit that Keima must capture. Apparently, she finds Keima's face "cute" as well, because whenever he looks at her innocently, she starts getting flustered, and then angry. Her subsitute word for "cute" is "weak".
- Kosaka Chihiro
- Described by Keima as a "Mob character", she is the sixth target for the capturing pair. She appears to have already confessed to a couple of guys and thinks that life without love is dull.
Minor Characters
- Keima's mother
- Keima's mother seems like the typical shoujo mother; optomistic, ditzy and overall loving. But when she's angry, she removes her glasses and lets her hair is down, and changes personalities completely. Keima claims she used to be a part of some biker gang.
- Dokurou Skull
- Hell's counter measures branch chief. He is the one who assigns Elsie to capture spirits in the human world and sends Keima Katsuragi the contract letter.
- Hakua du Lot Herminium
- A fellow demon and friend of Elsee. Currently a District Chief, she was a stand-out honor student who failed to capture any spirits in the human world, which created the space in her heart that allowed a powerful spirit to take over. After being calmed by Elsee, the two defeated the spirit. Also assisted by Keima in the investigation, it's speculated that she may have fallen for him.
