Marion Braidfute of Lamington was, according to Blind Harry, a maiden whom William Wallace courted and married. She was killed by Sir William Heselrig, the English Sheriff of Lanark. Wallace avenged her death by killing Heselrig and then dismembering his corpse. In the movie Braveheart, her name was changed to Murron MacClannough so audiences would not confuse her with Maid Marian. There is little doubt that Marion was an invention of Blind Harry. If Wallace was bound for the priesthood - a widely-accepted premise - he could not have married.
