Greg McElroy (born May 10, 1988) is an American football player. He is currently a back-up quarterback to John Parker Wilson for the Alabama Crimson Tide.

High school career

McElroy prepped at newly-famous Carroll High School of Southlake, Texas, where he played for coach Todd Dodge. During his sophomore and junior year, McElroy played behind later Heisman trophy finalist Chase Daniel. As a senior in 2005, McElroy passed for 4,687 yards, 56 touchdowns and just nine interceptions as he led Southlake Carroll (16-0) to the state 5A championship. For his efforts he was named 5A Offensive Player of the Year in Texas and an EA Sports All-American. His 56 touchdown passes ranks 1st all-time in the Texas 5A classification and 2nd all-time in Texas high school football history, behind Texas Tech'sGraham Harrell's 67 TD passes in 2003. His 4,687 passing yards currently rank 5th all-time in Texas. The offense directed by McElroy averaged 47.7 points a game and 518.8 yards per game. McElroy's offense finished with the all-time record in Texas for points in a season with 763 points, finishing ahead of Vince Young's Houston Madison team of 2000.

College career

McElroy had full-scholarship offers from Colorado, BYU, TCU, Southern California, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Michigan, among many others, but eventually accepted an offer from the University of Alabama. He redshirted in 2006 and played behind John Parker Wilson in 2007. He only appeared against Western Carolina and Tennessee in 2007, but only attempted passes against Western Carolina as he completed 8 of 9 passes for 73 yards and one touchdown. On November 29, 2008, McElroy threw a touchdown pass against state rival Auburn in the final minutes of the Iron Bowl's fourth quarter.
