Squidward J. Tentacles is a fictional character in the Nickelodeon animated series SpongeBob SquarePants. He was created by Stephen Hillenburg and is voiced by Rodger Bumpass.

Appearance

Squidward is a tall, pale grey-green, six legged squid. He has a big nose, bulbous head and large yellow eyes. Like a real squid, his pupils are rectangular, and in this case a dark shade of red. He has a shallow, slightly nasal voice.

Personality

Squidward considers himself to be very clever, and he is indeed more intelligent than many of the other characters, but he has an extremely overblown opinion of himself. He has a very short temper, a sarcastic sense of humor and a passion for all things artistic. His creations always display himself in different artistic styles and mediums, and are thought hideous by everyone except him and his neighbour, SpongeBob. In one episode he actually has to eat his paintings since no one will buy them. He also plays the clarinet.

Relationships

Squidward hates both Spongebob and Patrick, who constantly annoy him. They consider him a great friend, so he has to put up with their shenanigans even more. They are about the only people who give him respect. Squidward has little respect for his boss, Mr. Krabs, and questions him on many occasions, once going so far as to go on strike due to ridiculous work conditions.

Career

Squidward is a cashier at the Krusty Krab. Squidward has most likely been a cashier since the Krusty Krab was built. He dislikes his job due to Spongebob, and on one occasion fondly recalls when the establishment had "class". He considers himself an artist.
