This article appears to be a dictionary definition. |
An informed consumer is a person who is considering the purchase of a commodity and has more knowledge about the attributes of that commodity then that which is described by the product packaging or seller. Some of the unlisted attributes could be product quality, a knowledge of the production process, comparison and contrast by attribute to other similar commodities, or the general usefulness of the commodity. As a result of this additional knowledge, an informed consumer could make their purchasing decision based on all relevant knowledge rather than what is psychologically compelling knowledge. This lets the consumer make a 'better' purchase decision which upholds the consumers interests over the sellers interests.
