Acheta domesticus (house cricket) is a cricket native to Europe [2]. Both sexes of this grey or brown cricket are fully winged but can't fly. Originally from the Middle East and North Africa the insect is found in permanently heated buildings such as bakeries. Its shrill warbling song is heard mainly at night.

It is sometimes used as food for captive reptiles, a cheaper-to-raise alternative to Gryllus (field crickets).
