This article is a list of the characters who feature in the Playstation 2 game Ar tonelico II: Melody of Metafalica.

Croix Bartel (クロア バーテル, Kuroa Bāteru)

The main character of the game and a promising young Knight who eventually finds himself in a civil war. He hates missions involving the capture of IPDs even though he knows he has to stop them. He was adopted by Reisha when he lost his parents and had lived with Luca until 4 years ago when he left for Pastalia to become a Knight. 2 years earlier during an outbreak he rescued Cocona and took her in as family and they have been together since. Sincere at the weapon shop in Pastalia is extremely fond of him. He usually wears glasses in his relaxation hours as he remarks that he has poor eyesight, but he takes them off when he goes into battle. He finds himself caught up in an escalating civil war during one of his missions and soon finds himself directly protecting Cloche Leythal Pastalia, and in for an adventure that will decide the fate of all of Ar Ciel.

A cheerful girl and childhood friend of Croix's. She works as a Dive Therapist in Rakshak and is extremely knowledgeable in all matters related to Diving and Diver's Therapy. She has a strange taste of cooking. She seems to harbor a lot of secrets under her cheerful exterior though. Luca's true name was the adopted name of her sister Reika (aka Cloche Leythal Pastalia) but changed her named to Luca to cover up her identity after her biological mother Asche was killed as a result of a conspiracy by Alfman.

Cloche Leythal Pastalia (クローシェ・レーテル・パスタリエ, Kurōshe Rēteru Pasutarie))

The revered Priestess for the organization Croix works for. She seems haughty,bossy and uptight initially and treats Croix poorly at first, but is actually quite weak willed and pessimistic. She learns to be true to herself and share her truest feelings as she travels with Croix and his companions. She likes fancy things and stuffed animals called Geroggo. She is fond of children and dotes on them. Her true name is Reika (Leyka in English version).

Cocona Bartel (ココナ・バーテル, Kokona Bāteru)

Croix's little sister. Gets along with him and calls him "Chro". She has no blood relation to Croix however, but was taken in as family when she was rescued by him 2 years prior during a particularly bad IPD outbreak where she lost her real family. She is a Reyvatail herself but she has not yet matured and is unable to use Song Magic fully. However, she is able to craft a little fire ball in combat showing that she might have command of the most basic Song Magic that all Reyvateil can use. Wanting to help Croix, she toughens up physically and practices in close combat. In the progress of the story she gets infected up to Lv.7 , even then, Croix tries to protect her but is defeated by Legris and other knights. It's shown that Croix really cares for Cocona, and soon after her rescue, Croix starts to question the actions of the organizations around him. Her feelings for Croix are extremely strong and her bond with him will eventually be tested. After events of Ar tonelico II, Jakuri entrusted her a mission to Tylia's Tower, one that would put not only the fate of all the regions around the Towers at the balance, but also the fate of the very planet (Ar Ciel) they live in.

Croix's commander. His mission always comes first, however he soon becomes troubled over the value of what he is ordered to do as he travels with Croix. He eventually values the feelings of those under him and starts to question authority. Has some past relation with Reisha and eventually harbors feelings for Amarie.

A wandering adventurer. She seems to hold many ulterior motives at first. She has feelings for Chester and is trying to get him get over their sad past with his former lover Sonia and her friend, who succumbed to an IPD outbreak years before. She is initially unapproachful to the rest of the party for her personal problems, but as the story progresses she learns to share her true feelings with everyone and develops feelings for Legris.

A blue dragon/dog-like creature that first appears as an enemy. Calls himself a Servant of God. His true loyalty is however to Frelia and would do anything to protect her. He becomes sort of an advisor for Croix and his party when he eventually joins late in the story. His true name is Enjar, and only Frelia calls him that.

She calls herself Jakuri but her true identity is that of Mir (Mule) a β pure-blood Reyvateil from the first Ar tonelico game. She has the special ability to control viruses. She came to Metafalss to search for clues to restore the planet Ar Ciel to how it was before the Grathnode Inferia. Apparently seems to have made friends with Spica, and seems to have a sort of working relationship to Shurelia now. She still seems to dislike humans, but its now more of an old habit dying hard rather more than anything. She initially gets in the way of Croix and his party, but soon switches over and becomes their greatest ally. Her knowledge of the mechanics of the Towers is invaluable and greatly surprises Shun. She seems to have developed a witty and semi-sarcastic personality over the past year and half. and looks like she trust Croix enough to let him Dive into her. After the events in Ar tonelico II, she had found an important clue that may save the world and entrusts the mission in Tylia's Tower to Cocona as she had to return to Sol Ciel on another mission to help Shurelia with her Tower.

Luca's father. He was a proud warrior and also, he was Legris´ senior.

Amarie's Pet/Companion. Soon 'defects' to Luca and is stuck with her from then onward. Plays a very important role soon enough.

Goro (ゲンゴロー, Gengorō)

Luca's Mind Guardian. She hides a deep secret...

Infel (インフェル, Inferu)

Cloche's Mind Guardian. Like Gengorou, she has a big secret... "Infel" means "love" in the Hymmnos Language.

Nenesha (ネネシャ, Nenesha)

Infel's friend. She and Infel used to work together for something...

Ayatane (絢胤 (アヤタネ), Ayatane)

Voiced by: Shōta Kibe

Full name "Ayatane Michitaka", He is Jakuri's Mind Guardian. He looks a lot like Ayatane from the first game... No one is certain whether this is the same Ayatane, but he refers Jakuri as his "Mother" like Ayatane from the first game.

Alfman Uranous (アルフマン・ウラノス, Arufuman Uranosu)

Leader of the organization for which Croix works. He wields a lollipop gun. There seems to be ulterior motives to his actions, and he is extremely self-loving.

A sinister old man at Alfman's side. He tried to kidnap Luca several years ago for some plan, but failed and got Reika instead. He has some nasty motives up his sleeve and seems to know Jakuri's true identity.

Crown Prince Targana (タルガーナ皇太子, Tarugāna Koutaishi)

Croix's childhood friend, who trained together under the same Master. He leads an organization called God's Divine Army and opposes the organization for which Croix works. He is extremely confident in his swordsmanship.

Administrator of the second Tower, she is a shy girl and does not talk much; Shun is always by her side and tries to protect her no matter what. She calls Shun "Shun-chan". Late into the game, she will allow Croix to dive into her.

Cynthia (シンシア, Shinshia)

Owner of the weapon shop in Pastalia. She isn't too shy to show her feelings for Croix, which sometimes embarrasses him, and gets jealous when another girl (except Cocona) is around him.

Sasha (沙亜紗（さーしゃ）, Sāsha)

Height: 127 cm

Weight: 26 kg

Owner of the country shop. She is very fond of Croix and Cloche, and looks like she has a little liking to Luca, too. She usually refers to Croix as "Chro-nii" and Cloche as "Chro-nee" in Japanese version.

Skycat (空猫（そらねこ）, Soraneko)

Maid of the restaurant in Rakshak. She is an old friend of Luca, and refers to Luca as "Senpai" even though she and Luca didn't work together. Her true name is Lelina (レレナ, Rerena)

Spica Neal (スピカ・ニール, Supika Nīru)

Age: 26

A woman who used to live in Firefly Alley from the first game. She now works on alchemy in a workshop in Ena Town, but still sells kitty candy. She seems to know about Jakuri's past and knows her real name. Late into the game, she sells rare items from the first game that Aurica, Misha, and Shurelia created for Lyner as well as various other pieces of equipment.

A Virus that Jakuri created which is an upgraded version of ELMA-DS. If Jakuri gives him the order, he can transform into Jakuri Robo. Originally ELMA-DS is a copy of ELMA, the Tower Guardian from the first Ar Tonelico and Shurelia's pet.

Raki (ラキ, Raki) (JP: Rhaki)

A Maid Droid charged with the tower's maintenance and security, though she looks like she has gone haywire late in the game. It's similar to Mei Mei and Kanade from the first Ar Tonelico tower.

Rheki (レキ, Reki)

Another Maid Droid charged with the tower's maintenance. She inhabits the Hotspot zone of the tower.

Aurica Nestmile (オリカ・ネストミール, Orika Nesutomīru)

One of the heroines from the first game. She appears in Frelia's cosmosphere, sometime wears her Donsuke (Don Leon) costume and calls it a "Power Suit". In Frelia's Cosmosphere, she works with Misha.

Misha Arsellec Lune (彌紗・アルトセルク・リューン, Misha Arutoseruku Ryūn)

Age: 19

One of the heroines from the first game, she appears in Frelia's Cosmosphere. In Frelia's Cosmosphere, she seems to be subordinate of Aurica.

Shurelia (シュレリア, Shureria)

One of the heroines from the first game, She is Origin Reyvateil, she appears in Frelia's Cosmosphere as one of the spies of Misha and Aurica

Jack Hamilton (ジャック・ハミルトン, Jakku Hamiruton)

A lone gunman from the first game. However, he doesn't appear in Ar Tonelico II; just a picture when Jakuri talks about the Teru Tribe [Sub Event].

A woman who sacrificed herself to seal Mir away. She only appears when Jakuri talks about the Teru Tribe [Sub Event].

Also, like Jack and other members of the Teru Tribe, she only appears when Jakuri talks about Teru Tribe [Sub Event].

Tylia (ティリア)

She is the third Origin Reyvateil. Even though she has not made an appearance in the game yet, she was mentioned at various scenes.

Puni

A blue slime and a very basic monster in Atelier series. In Ar Tonelico II, the Puni appear in Cloche's Red Magic as one of the toys falling.

Nyo?

A basic monster from the first Ar Tonelico. It doesn't appear in random battles, but it appears in sub events. However there are a total of 2 of them in this game.
