McCormick Tribune Freedom Museum
The McCormick Freedom Museum was opened on April 11, 2006 in Chicago by the McCormick Foundation. It is the first museum in the United States dedicated to the First Amendment. The museum is two stories and offers visitors an interactive experience focused on first amendment rights which include freedom of speech, religion, press, assembly and petition. It is located on Michigan Avenue along the Magnificent Mile next to the historic Tribune Tower.
On January 30, the Freedom Museum shared new changes that will transform the Museum in 2009. The Freedom Museum will be taking its educational and inspirational message on the road to reach a wider audience of teachers, students and citizens of all ages. As of March 1, the Freedom Museum will transition exclusively to outreach programs which will replace the Museum’s physical location in Chicago.
