Casa Zimbabwe, commonly referred to as CZ, is a student housing cooperative in Berkeley, California. It is part of the USCA co-op system.

With 124 residents, CZ is one of the largest co-ops in Berkeley (second only to Cloyne Court).

Casa-Z has a reputation as one of the most dynamic and interesting cooperatives the USCA.

Now that Le Chateau is closed, it also has a reputation as one of the most chaotic and dirtiest (also second only to Cloyne).

Though CZ is sometimes less clean than your grandmother might like, as one might expect from 124 close quartered college students, CZ has had a below average (rate of the large Co-Ops) vacancy for the last several years.

CZ is the only USCA house that was built as a co-op, rather than having been converted from an older structure. Currently, the USCA is planning a large-scale renovation and seismic retrofit for CZ so it won't fall down, maybe...

House History

CZ once had this awesome, but crazy, girl living there. She lit a bonfire in a bathtub up on the roof and Central Office kicked her out.

In 1999 crazy tweakers lived at CZ and smoked lots of speed. Also they blew speed smoke into the face of a cat, belonging to the house manager who was also a pregger. Shortly thereafter, the cat gave birth to tweaker kittens that twitched a lot and scratched innocent people who weren't doing shit but sitting around smoking speed.
