General

Petpets are small companions for your Neopet. These companions come in many shapes sizes and colors and some are only native to certain regions in Neopia. For example, you can only find a Harris in Faerieland.[1] Neopets players need to feed and care for their Neopets to keep them happy and healthy, and they are able to spoil their pets with everything from trips to a day spa to their very own even smaller pets, Petpets. [2] Giving a Petpet to your Neopet can make a Neopet happier. [3]

Caring for a Petpet

Food & Supplies

Users are able to care for and play with their Petpets. Users can give their Petpets every luxury including toys, food bowls, scratching posts, Petpet foods and even litter trays![4] Players can name their Petpet on their Quick Reference Page. Players can also chat with their petpet by clicking the "Click here to visit [Your Petpets Name Here]'!" option on their Quick Reference Page.[5] Many items on the site feature Petpets and Petpets have even been prominently featured in Neopets plots[6] and games.[7]

Petpet Protection League

The Petpet Protection League (abreviated PPL) is a group of Neopians who encourge the humane treatment of Petpets in Neopia. Each week a random species of Petpet is selected and users are rewarded for having had them for the longest time by paying 10 Neopoints for every day they have been owned. Users who have the oldest of the selected species receive a Trophy as well. [8]

As of March 1st, Neopets has released 440 Petpet species. With a total number of 2,476 Petpets including all variants, for all species. [9]

There are many different types of Petpet including ones that are native to certain regions in Neopia. The main Petpet Shop is in the Neopian Bazaar. Here you will find Petpets like Noils, Warfs, Kadoaties and Doglefoxes. [10] You can purchase these Petpets at the 14 exisiting Petpet shops around Neopia or from shops run by other players. [11] Each shop specializes in Petpets from a specific region and corresponds to the land where that shop is located.

Petpets can also be painted all kinds of different colours at the Petpet Puddle. Once you acquire a Petpet paint brush, you can take your Petpet to the Petpet Puddle and paint your Petpet that color. Petpet Park (www.petpetpark.com) is a virtual pet website launched in October 2008 by Nickelodeon Kids & Family Virtual Worlds Group. The Neopets team has created a new virtual world starring the Neopets' trusted companions - Petpets! There are six new Petpet species in the virtual world of Petpet Park to choose from. Once you pick your favorite, help train them through games, activities and challenges, customise them, and take them out to explore the park and meet friends. [14] Petpet Park is still in beta testing. This means that there are still bugs in the game, and they are adding new features to the game that need testing. For this reason, there are a limited number of Beta testing spots, but more are occationally released at www.PetpetPark.com.[15]

At Petpet Park users can:

  • Adopt and customize their own Petpet
  • Play games
  • Chat with friends[16]

Petpets in Merchandise

There are many pieces of Petpet merchandise available including plushies, notebooks, door hangers and jewellery. The Neopets Trading Card Game also features many Petpets, you can even have a deck themed entirely around using Petpets!
