Non-tropic hormone

Non-tropic hormones are hormones that directly stimulate target cells to induce effects. This differs from the tropic hormones in that tropic hormones bind a receptor on another endocrine gland.

Non-tropic hormones released from the posterior pituitary gland in the brain are:

  • Oxytocin - stimulates milk letdown in females.
