Lazona Kawasaki Plaza (ラゾーナ川崎プラザ) is a shopping mall in Saiwai-ku, Kawasaki, Japan. The mall adjoins the west side Kawasaki Station.
The project provided a unique opportunity to achieve the objective of creating a site which is not the sum of different uses but their integration into an aesthetic whole, a complex imbued with quality of life and a new landmark on the city’s skyline. The programme included commercial facilities, a shopping mall, two department stores and an office building slated to become the Toshiba headquarters. Lazona Kawasaki Plaza was a great success. In the first three months after its opening, it was patronised by over 10,000,000 visitors, beating a monster record previously set by Disneyland Tokyo.
Structure
The roof was designed by Ricardo Bofill, and makes use of natural lighting.
History
The mall opened on 28 September 2006.
