NTV (Newport Television) is the student television station run by Newport Students' Union. The content is all created by students at University of Wales, Newport. A concept of 2007/08 SU President, Andrew Cargill, the station created its first trial program in March 2008 and was officially launched in September 2008 by then Entertainments Sabbatical Officer Jonny Roberts and Film & Video student Jennifer Moran, the station prides itself on having become the leading student television station in Wales due to 'Becoming Neil' being awarded 'Highly Commended' at the National Student Television Association (NaSTA) Awards in March 2009 and the subsequent press coverage recieved.


Online, On-Demand

NTV content is uploaded to Vimeo then embedded into the Newport Students' Union website for students to view at their luxury.

Award-Winning

'Becoming Neil' a 3 minute Documentary by Alexander O'Toole and Ezra Byrne won 'Highly Commended' at NTV's first NaSTA Awards in March 2009. NTV entered 10 categories from 16 at the 2009 NaSTA Conference.

Also at the conference NTV proposed a motion for the addition of an Animation category at next year's awards, this was passed with an 80% vote in favour.

Press coverage

Following the award win NTV recieved coverage from South Wales Argus (a local paper covering South East Wales) and the BBC website, where 'Blind Date' (the first ever NTV show), was displayed.

The Future

NTV aims to develop greatly in the coming years, with lofty ambitions to become one of the leading student television stations in the UK.

The Students' Union is to make a significant investment into equipment for the station and hopes to find extra funding to support full-scale development.
